Hatch Monsoon 5 Plus vs. Galvan Torque 6. These are two great reels, but the nod goes to the Hatch, which not surpisingly, is a more expensive by $120.00. It is the smoothest reel I’ve encountered. While the Hatch is not quite as smooth, this is really splitting hairs. IMO, Galvan did everything right EXCEPT they placed a cheap plastic knob on the reel(I have meaty fingers, and the knob on the Galvan is too small). Hatch on the other hand has a beefy, solid aluminum knob that feels much more solid and secure, and is much easier to find when fumbling for the reel handle. So if you can spend an extra $120, go for the Hatch. If Galvan were to put just a little more into the reel handle (even a large rubber knob like Orvis uses on their Battenkills), Galvan would be the best option IMO.
